Children’s Swim Lessons

All swimming lessons are taught utilizing the American Red Cross guidelines and teaching techniques. These lessons are available to the children and grandchildren of SRC members. We have lessons for little ones with all swimming abilities.

  • Location: Rec Pool
  • 5 lessons — 30 minutes, once a week for five (5) weeks
  • SRC Members only—$21
  • Class Size: Minimum 3, Maximum 5
  • Register at the SRC front desk or online

Children’s Lessons — Saturdays

  • 9:15 – 9:45 a.m. — Ages 4–7
  • 10 – 10:30 a.m. — Parent and Me
  • 10:45 – 11:15 a.m. — Ages 8–12, 13–17

*Any non-member wishing to sit on the deck and watch must purchase a spectators pass for $1.

*Parent & Me requires at least one parent per child to be in the water. Non-members wishing to get in the water must purchase a guest pass for $10.

Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons

Private lessons provide participants with the opportunity to learn at his/her own pace and can be adapted for all abilities. Set a time that works with your schedule and our instructor will help you to meet your swimming goals. Register first and then the SRC aquatics staff will contact you to arrange your private lessons. Private lessons are 30-minute one-on-one sessions scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Members may add a second person for $20 total for non-students and $10 total for students. Private and semi-private lessons may be done for children during weekend dependent hours only.

  • Students: $10 private, $5 semi-private
  • Non-Students: $20 private, $10 semi-private

Adult Lap Swim & Stay Fit Workouts

The Lap Swim and Stay Fit Workout Program is a fun and healthy balance between fitness and instruction. We offer a variety of aquatic workouts to meet individual needs and goals. This program allows you to swim your way into shape on your own time.

  • Location: Rec Pool and Plaza Pool
  • No registration needed

Adult Beginner Swim Lessons

Beginner swim lessons are for adults with little or no comfort in the water. Participants will learn how to hold their breath, float, get an introduction to the basic strokes and learn basic water safety skills.

Monday/Wednesday 5:30 –6 p.m. & 6 – 6:30 p.m. or Tuesday/Thursday 6 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

  • Students: $16, Non-students: $32

Adult Intermediate Swim Lessons

Intermediate swim lessons are for adults that have completed Adult Beginner or have equivalent skills. Participants in this class are comfortable in the water, but need stroke and stamina improvement. Participants will continue stroke development in freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke and improve their water fitness.

Monday/Wednesday 5:30 –6 p.m. & 6 – 6:30 p.m. or Tuesday/Thursday 6 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Lifeguard Certification Class

This American Red Cross certified course is offered to SRC members who wish to become certified lifeguards.

Dates and Times:
Friday, April 18, 6 – 9 p.m.
Saturday April 19, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturday April 26, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturday April 27, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturday, May 3, 1 – 5 p.m.

Price: $130

Clothing: Participants will need a bathing suit for all 5 meetings.

Lunch: Lunch will be provided on days that exceed 6 hours of training (April 19, 26 and 27).

Pre-requisites:

  1. All participants will need to swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
  2. Tread water for 2 minutes only using their legs
  3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
    • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object while keeping your face at or near the surface so you are able to get a breath. You should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water with using a ladder or steps.
If participants fail to demonstrate these pre-requisites they will receive a refund for the full amount.

What participants will need to complete in order to pass the lifeguard class:

  • Attend all 5 class meetings.
  • Receive an 80% or better on the written test in all sections (CPR/First Aid/AED/Lifeguarding).
  • Successfully demonstrate all skills and rescues in water.
